When your HP laptop only has a C: drive with Win7 pre-installed, all of your programs, word documents, photos and other personal files will be stored on the system partition. It is quite dangerous like putting all your eggs in one basket. If your OS is corrupted, all those eggs will be smashed as well. Besides, it will slow down your laptop.

This Windows 7 built-in Disk Management can help partition HP laptop hard drive, but it comes with the limitation (only work on NTFS partition). So here we also bring a powerful third-party partition manager-AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional.

The above discussion is based on the situation where there is only one boot partiton on the HP laptop with pre-installed Windows 7. On the contrary, what if your HP laptop hard drive has been divided into 4 primary partitions:C drive with pre-installed OS; HP_TOOLS partition that allows using the HP System Diagnostics after pressing the F2 key on the startup; RECOVERY partition for recovering the OS by pressing the F11 key on the startup; SYSTEM active partition to boot the OS and run Windows Recovery Environment?

Moreover, you can also first convert the MBR disk into GPT partition style, which can contain 128 primary partitions at most, and then create more primary partitions on the HP laptop HDD. For this task, you can also use the AOMEI software as well because it can convert MBR to GPT without deleting existing partitions.

How to partition HDD HP laptop in Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 without formatting? You must know the answer after reading this article, as well as how to tackle with the common error when you create more partitions on MBR HDD in HP laptop. Apparently, AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional is a versatile and reliable partition manager for Windows PC. If you are running Windows Server, try the Server edition, please.

If you buy a computer with Windows 10 or Windows 8 preinstalled, you will find that there is a recovery partition in Disk Management, with no drive letter and no executable functions except Help (see the image attached below).

Although a recovery partition takes up a couple of GBs of disk space, you can save a lot of time finding a way to quickly restore your PC to factory conditions when your PC runs abnormally. Thanks to the huge disk space of today's hard drives, the disk space taken by recovery partition is only a drop in the bucket.

If your computer isn't running the way it should and keeps sending out error messages, or you just want to make a reset to its default state, then Windows 10 recovery partition plays an rather important role. How to factory reset a Windows 10 laptop? Well, the process of restoring windows 10 from recovery partition is rather easy. Just follow these steps:

In an earlier tutorial, I showed the steps to dual boot Ubuntu with Windows 7 which comes with an MBR partition. The steps are almost the same for the newer systems that come preinstalled with Windows 10.

Windows 10 has a smaller footprint than earlier versions of Windows, but if you have a Windows tablet or laptop with a small storage drive, every byte counts. Here are three ways to make Windows take up less room on your hard drive or SSD.

A fresh install of Windows 10 takes up about 15 GB of storage space. Most of that is made up of system and reserved files while 1 GB is taken up by default apps and games that come with Windows 10. This might not sound a lot, but if you have a cheap 32GB Windows laptop or even a 64GB one, it's a significant portion of your storage space taken up by the operating system. For example, the Lenovo Ideapad 100S comes with just 32GB of internal memory and only 17GB of free space out of the box. You can reduce Windows's footprint by uninstalling default Windows 10 apps, disabling the hibernation, and tweaking the virtual memory settings. All of these strategies work in previous versions of Windows, except for uninstalling Windows 10 default apps.

This will delete the hiberfil.sys file on your computer and remove the option to hibernate your system. You can still put your computer to sleep, which saves your computer state to memory instead of your hard drive and keeps your computer on but in a low-power state.

With virtual memory, if your computer doesn't have enough physical memory to run a program or operation, Windows will temporarily move some data from RAM to a paging file on your hard drive. You can limit how much space this paging file takes up.

I installed Ubuntu on a Dell XPS 13 laptop that had Windows 10 preinstalled on it. I installed it from a USB flash drive on a partition. When I boot my computer I can only boot into Windows 10 and Ubuntu is nowhere to be seen.

If this doesn't work try booting to anUbuntu live session from the USB flash drive that you used to install Ubuntu, and repairing the GRUB bootloader with Boot Repair. From an Ubuntu live session open the terminal and type:

If you have installed Ubuntu in legacy mode on the same drive with GPT partitioning, you can use Boot Repair's Advanced options to uninstall grub-pc and install grub-efi-amd64. That converts the Ubuntu installation from BIOS boot to UEFI boot, the same firmware as most recently manufactured laptops with Windows pre-installed have.

I had the exact same problem. What fixed it for me was this:I have 2 different hard drives installed. It took me forever to figure this out but was solved it was changing the boot priority from the first to the second drive. Probably the boot manager for ubuntu was installed on the other drive so it couldn't find it and booted straight into windows.

I had a similar issue, and it turned out that the problem was that there wasn't a working driver for my GPU preinstalled on the OS. My solution was to enter Recovery mode. At the GRUB menu press the down arrow key until you select the 2nd entry from the top (the entry with the recovery mode in its description) and then press Enter twice.

You can get things up and running again at full speed if you reformat your laptop entirely. It saves your laptop and gets it working like it did when you first purchased it. You have to be careful, however, because a step format like this has a lot of steps involved. You could end up losing your data or being unable to get your operating system back if you miss even one crucial step. To start with, make sure you have all the necessary software to restore your computer and then use either a Windows operating system installation disc or a recovery disc to format your hard drive and install Windows again.

Next, you need to check that you have all the driver discs and software to reinstall your hardware device drivers and programs. If some of your programs came from the internet, download their installation files and save them to a flash disk or other storage device.

On Windows 11 (version 22H2 or 21H2), a clean installation refers to erasing the hard drive and applying a fresh copy of the operating system without custom settings, drivers, apps, or files. Typically, this is the recommended approach to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11 on compatible hardware to prevent installation issues and fix existing problems.

Using a USB flash drive is the most straightforward method to clean install Windows 11. You can create a bootable media using the Media Creation Tool, Command Prompt, Rufus, or any other third-party tool. (See also this video tutorial with the installation process from USB at the Pureinfotech YouTube channel.)

The recovery settings offer another method to start fresh with a clean copy of Windows 11. Unlike the Media Creation Tool, bootable flash drive, and ISO file options, you can only use this method to reinstall Windows 11 on a computer already running the same OS.

Once you complete the steps, the recovery feature will continue with the reinstallation using the locally available image of Windows 11. This process will restore the original settings if you have a computer from HP, Dell, Acer, or another brand. This means the manufacturer included factory settings, drivers, applications, and tools in the custom image.

Starting with Windows 11, the Media Creation Tool no longer includes an option to perform a clean installation or in-place upgrade. You can only use the tool to create a bootable media to perform an installation using a USB flash drive or ISO file.

The best Windows laptops are light enough to carry all day, powerful enough to tackle your daily workload without lag, and power-efficient enough that you don't need to worry about unplugging to get some work done on the go. A great screen and a comfy keyboard are also key components.

We have our full list of the best laptops overall, which includes MacBooks and Chromebooks, but those who prefer Windows should stick with this list. At Tom's Guide we review dozens of laptops from the top manufacturers every year. We evaluate every system in the testing lab and in the real world, running benchmark tests, display tests and battery life tests. And only the very best Windows laptops are recommended here.

Though a Windows laptop at its core, the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 comes loaded with a slew of Samsung software. This could be good or bad, depending on how invested you are in the Samsung ecosystem. If you are, then you'll find that this 2-in-1 pairs nicely with your Samsung tablets and phones. Otherwise, all of these applications are effectively bloatware. 041b061a72
