Gregory is different from old player characters in a number of ways. Normally, the first-person Five Nights at Freddy's games are simply a vehicle for the player to spend five nights at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria (or some equivalent). To that end, they tend not to have defined appearances or a voice. The child protagonist from FNaF 4 only had a simple pixel art design. Gregory actually has concept art showing his face, and he speaks frequently throughout Security Breach. He's also actively navigating the building to escape, putting him at odds with most other protagonists, who could not - or would not - leave.
